My name is Robyn Sechler and I’d like to share a story with you about how my husband Tim and I came to realize the importance of Securing Memories.
Several years ago I came across an old Blackberry device of mine from over 10 years ago. I figured I had no use for it and I allowed my children to play with it. Imagine how ancient it must have seemed to them!
In any case, I quickly learned that on that device was a conversation recorded between my father and I just days before he passed away.
This outdated toy suddenly became a priceless piece of history to me!
I began to search for a way to access the trapped data and save it so my children could listen to it. That’s how I found FOREVER.com, a place to store, organize, and share your digital assets in a private and permanent way. I was able to upload the data from the Blackberry onto FOREVER.com, pull up a photo of my father and play the recording for my kids to hear (see below👇). This was the first time they ever had a chance to hear my father’s voice, as he passed away just before my first son was born. Amazingly, the topic my father was talking about on that recording, was what it was like to go to grade school for him. My children, who also are in grade school, were able to relate to him a way that had not been possible before.
I began feeling a strong pull to help others out there who may have an opportunity to see their loved ones on the screen after many years. Or like in my case, “meet” them for the very first time.
This journey has taken me down many roads of emotion and I find myself wishing there were more stories for me to listen to, and more photos for me to view from my father, grandparents, and friends who I have lost. I realized, for the first time in history, we are able to capture, share, store and pass down messages to our loved ones, and I can’t shout that message loud enough! Being on the receiving side of such an amazing gift of his voice, makes me want to share this with the world!
And so, Securing Memories was born! I am so grateful for the series of events that led me to that Blackberry and to FOREVER.com, and eventually to Securing Memories.
