4 Steps to Create your Digital Legacy Today
The term Digital Legacy is a relatively new one. A Digital Legacy is a collection of your digital assets – otherwise known as anything you use your computer, tablet, phone or other device to create on including photos and videos. This collection includes all the things in a digital format (digital assets) that you want to pass or share with your family members now, or when you are no longer around. Until now we haven’t had the technology available to be able to share our digital assets with future generations. However, now that technology has caught up with us we’re finally able to not only preserve and secure our digital assets, we can take it even a step further and preserve our family’s stories as well. Our memories are like the prize we get to take home from the fair after having had a great time. They are made from a series of experiences that made you who you are today, and believe it or not, we can pass those on, too.
Creating a digital legacy of stories allows you to record your important memories along with messages you want your loved ones to know. The best part is, now you can easily secure, and share memories by passing them on. Below I’ll show you how you can easily secure your stories by asking the right questions to get to the best memories while recording them on video. This allows your loved ones, and future generations, to learn from you, appreciate their family history, carry on family traditions and view you in full personality on camera as opposed to simply looking at a photograph.
To create your own Digital Legacy of stories, follow these 3 easy steps!
- Set aside the time
Most of us use calendars these days, either in your phone or on paper if you’re like me and you like a visual. Either way, putting things on your calendar makes it much more likely to get done. This can be a 5-minute block or an hour long depending on what your goals are and how often you plan to build it.
- Choose a Legacy Chapter
With so many possible questions to ask about your life, we recommend you break it down into chapters. We refer to the time periods in your life as Legacy Chapters.
Our chapters are broken down like this:
