When you start planning for New Year’s Eve, it’s usually geared towards the adults. Of course, this makes sense as the celebration takes place past most kid’s bedtimes. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make it fun and special! Depending on the age of your kids, you can do this celebration at noon – for a Noon Year’s Eve celebration, or, if you’re feeling brave, let them ring in the new year by staying up all the way until midnight! Either way, here are some fun ways to celebrate, and create new memories with your kids and families of all ages!
Memory jar
The upcoming 2021 year is bound to be full of new memories. Make the most of them by writing them down on a piece of paper as they occur throughout the year and place the paper in a jar. At the end of the year you will have them to read through again an have fun taking a trip down memory lane!
Set up a photo booth
Gather up whatever you have around the house! Costumes from past halloween, masks, sunglasses, costume jewelry, hats and scarves! Dress up yourself or each other and take silly pictures of your outfit creations!
Write your resolutions
New Year’s is a time to reflect on the past and plan for the future. Talk about what it means to make a resolution with you children then have each family member write theirs down. Put them in one place in the home where everyone will see them, such as on the refrigerator, and work to hold each other accountable for their goals!
Dance it out
What’s a New Year’s eve celebration without a dance party! Try this: “Hey Alexa – play dance music” and let her pick your jams! Get all your excitement and energy out by showing off your moves.
Make your own party
Feeling crafty? A little bit of construction paper and homemade streamers can go a long way! Encourage your kids to make their own party hats and confetti to throw throw when the ball drops.
Balloon buster
Got some balloons tucked away in a drawer somewhere? Pull them out, blow them up and write every hour starting with midnight and working your way back. For example, if you have 6 balloons, your count down will begin at 6:00 pm. You will have a balloon to bust every hour from 6:00 pm to midnight! If you only find 4 balloons, your countdown will start at 8:00 pm instead!
Bucket list it
There’s nothing more fun than to talk about al the things you want to do in the coming year! Grab a long piece of paper and hace a family brain storming session! Go around the table and let everyone add to the list until there are no more ideas left! Keep this page and refer back to it when the kids utter those two words that are bound to come out… “I’m bored”!
Story time
Send everyone on a hunt for a photo in your home. It can be in an album, a loose photo or on a phone! Tell the story that goes along with that photo! Enjoy a trip down memory lane and looking back at old photos!
